A DP-50 description is a starting point for a technical conversation, not a blanket approval for a New Orleans home. The product must be suitable for the required pressures and its documented configuration. Debris protection is a separate issue.
If two quotes use different ratings, ask what opening requirements each provider used. A bigger number may be relevant, but it does not explain whether the products are otherwise comparable.
Start with the opening, not the headline number
A home can contain fixed windows, operable units and combinations with different sizes and details. Give each opening an identifier. The requirement for one location should not simply be copied to the entire schedule.
For replacement work, provide photos of the complete frame and the surrounding wall. For new construction, use the current elevations and opening schedule. The review should connect the proposed product to a specific place on the house.
Ask for the supporting document
Request the manufacturer, series, operation, size and applicable rating information. Ask the supplier to show how the quoted configuration is covered. Read any size or assembly limitations along with the designation. [3]

Assuming compatible design bases, this candidate falls short in the negative direction. Selecting it solely because the positive value exceeds the requirement would miss the problem.
Keep pressure and impact questions separate
A high pressure rating does not establish resistance to windborne debris. Confirm the protection requirements for the address and scope. Where an approved covering is part of the accepted approach, include that system in the project conversation. [4] [5]
Do not use “hurricane-proof” as a substitute for documentation. The useful question is whether the exact assembly meets the applicable requirements when installed as specified.
What to include in your quote request
- Project address and whether the work is new or replacement.
- Current opening schedule or a photo-based opening list.
- Design requirements supplied by the responsible project team.
- Proposed operation, finish and glass preferences.
- Any separate protection system under consideration.
Does a higher DP rating always make a window the better buy?
Not by itself. Once suitability is established, compare energy performance, operation, appearance, care, installation scope and price. The best comparison uses complete, equivalent information.
