Exterior Door Ordering Checklist for Louisiana & Mississippi

Prepare an exterior door quote with photos, opening details, handing, jamb depth and finish preferences. Contact Kyle Johnson for product selection.

A front entry, patio door or sliding door quote starts with the opening and the intended use. Before comparing prices, document what is there and what you want to change. Kyle Johnson represents Amazing Windows & Doors and helps organize the product selection for homeowners, builders and contractors across Southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Photograph the entire opening

Send clear photographs from inside and outside, with the whole frame visible. Include the threshold, hinges, handle, surrounding trim and any sidelites or transom. Photograph the manufacturer label if one is present. For a replacement, note visible water damage, binding, drafts or an uneven threshold so the installer can investigate the underlying condition.

Label each measurement

A door slab, frame, rough opening and finished masonry opening are different measurements. Write down which one you measured. Do not remove trim solely to complete an initial quote request. Existing measurements and photographs can begin the discussion; the responsible installer should verify the opening before an order is released.

For a new build, send the latest plans and door schedule. Include the opening identifier so the quote can be matched to the drawing. Changes to wall thickness, finished floor height or exterior cladding can affect the selection.

Confirm swing and handing with a drawing

Describe which side the hinges are on and whether the door swings in or out. Include the viewpoint: inside looking out or outside looking in. A quick annotated photograph or floor-plan sketch is more reliable than a handing abbreviation by itself. Manufacturer terminology can differ, so approve the order drawing rather than relying only on a verbal description.

For a double door, identify the active panel. For sliding and patio doors, identify the operating panels and the view used by the manufacturer. Show nearby walls, steps and furniture that could affect operation.

Specify the complete assembly

  • Door material, style, glass and finish preferences.
  • Frame or jamb material and required depth.
  • Sidelites, transom and grille details.
  • Threshold, sill condition and floor transitions.
  • Lock preparation, hardware finish and desired function.
  • Screens or other accessories when applicable.
  • Required performance documentation identified by the project team.

Separate product selection from installation scope

Ask who will measure, remove the old assembly, address hidden damage, install the new product and complete interior or exterior trim. A product quote should clearly state which items it includes. Coordinate these responsibilities before purchase so the supplier and installer work from the same information.

Send the project details to Kyle

Include your project city, replacement or new-construction scope, opening photos, desired style and target timing. Kyle can help identify the missing information needed to compare exterior door options. Final dimensions, performance requirements and installation details must be approved by the responsible project professionals before ordering.
