Two replacement quotes can show similar window counts and very different totals. The useful question is what each price includes. Make a simple opening-by-opening comparison before choosing a product for your Slidell, Northshore, New Orleans or Gulf Coast home.
Start with the same opening list
Number each opening and describe the room, approximate dimensions, operating style and current condition. Use the same list for every quote. Mark any opening that may change size or operating type. Photographs help explain the existing frame and surrounding finishes, but final order measurements should be verified by the responsible installer.
Compare the actual product package
Record the manufacturer, product line, frame material, exterior and interior colors, glass package, grille pattern, screens and hardware. A brand name alone does not identify a complete specification. Ask whether the quoted dimensions or operating type affect available options and documented performance.
Read the energy information together
Compare the whole-product U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient for the actual configuration. U-factor describes heat transfer; SHGC describes the fraction of solar heat admitted. Discuss room orientation, shading, daylight and comfort concerns along with those ratings. A glass trade name alone is not a complete comparison. Use the NFRC product directory and the quoted product documentation.
Make installation responsibilities explicit
Ask the installer to identify the replacement approach and what happens to the existing frame. Confirm removal, disposal, flashing, sealants, trim, finish work and protection of the home. Discuss how concealed deterioration would be assessed and priced if discovered. Kyle helps with window and door product selection and can help coordinate with an installer. Product pricing is separate from installation; agree on the installation scope directly with the responsible installer.
Check performance and warranty details
For coastal projects, ask the project team to identify applicable opening requirements and request documentation for the proposed assembly. Pressure resistance and impact qualification are separate questions. Read the actual manufacturer warranty and distinguish glass coverage, frame coverage, finish coverage and any separate installation warranty. Confirm who receives a service request and what information they need.
Compare timing and the complete price
- Is the quotation based on the same number and type of openings?
- Are all selected glass, colors, screens and accessories included?
- Are freight, delivery arrangements and tax identified?
- Are installation and finish responsibilities separately stated?
- What information must be approved before the order is released?
- When will current manufacturing and delivery timing be confirmed?
Avoid treating an estimated lead time as a guaranteed installation date. Coordinate product availability and the installer's schedule before making commitments.
Request a product comparison
Send Kyle your opening list, project city, photographs and priorities. If you already have a quote, share the specifications you want compared. Kyle can help organize suitable product options and clarify the information needed for an accurate window and exterior door quotation.
